Joining a jam
Someone has sent you a room link. Here is what to do with it, and what to do when it does not behave.
What you need
- The room link the organiser sent you. It looks like
swaralounge.com/meeting/… - The email address the organiser added for you. Swara Lounge is invitation-only — there is no sign-up, and only addresses the organiser has added can get in.
- A browser with a camera and microphone. Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox all work. Your phone is fine.
There is no password anywhere. Signing in is done by clicking a link sent to your email.
Click the link, sign in, you are in the room
Open the room link
If you are already signed in on that browser, you go straight to the room and can skip to step 4.
Type your email address, press Send Magic Link
Use the address the organiser added. A different one will not be recognised.
Open the email and click its link
It brings you back to the room you were headed for — you do not need to find the room link again.
Enter a display name and join
You see a preview of your camera first, and can mute or turn it off before joining.
Which of these is you?
Been here before
Same browser as last time
You are probably still signed in. The room link takes you straight there.
Been here before
New browser, phone, or private window
You will be asked to sign in again. Being signed in on your laptop does nothing for your phone — that is normal.
First time ever
Never used Swara Lounge
Start from your invitation email, not the room link. See below.
First time here? Start with your invitation email
If you have never signed in to Swara Lounge before, look for an invitation email from the organiser and click the link inside it. That first click is what activates your address.
Until you have done it once, the ordinary sign-in form will tell you your address isn’t registered — even though the organiser has already added you. It is confusing, and it is not your mistake. If you cannot find an invitation email, ask the organiser to send it again.
When it misbehaves
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| “This email address isn’t registered.” | Either the organiser has not added you yet, or you have not clicked your invitation email. Ask the organiser. |
| “That sign-in link has expired or has already been used.” | Sign-in links work exactly once. Request a fresh one. Some work email systems open links automatically to scan them, which uses the link up before you get to it — if that keeps happening, try a personal address. |
| The room link gives an error | Rooms close a few minutes after the last person leaves. Ask the organiser for a new link. |
| You are asked to sign in again | You are in a different browser, a different device, or a private window. Each one signs in separately. |
| “Too many sign-in emails have been requested.” | Wait a few minutes and try once more. |
Open the sign-in email in the same browser you asked for it from — that is where it expects to land.
Once you are in
Everyone appears in a grid. You can mute yourself, turn your camera off, and switch microphone or camera at any time.
If the session uses recorded parts, the organiser starts and stops the jam so that everybody’s part begins at the same moment. Only they see those controls — you do not need to do anything to stay in time.
If you are the one running it
- Create the room when people are ready not an hour before. Empty rooms close after a few minutes and the link stops working.
- Join your own room and stay in it while people arrive.
- Check everyone in advance — anyone who has never clicked an invitation email cannot sign in, however long they have been on the list.
- Whoever creates the room runs the jam — that is fixed when the room is made and cannot be handed over mid-session.
